Squash & Stretch

After the character was all skinned I decided that I wanted to go further and add squah and stretch because as it is a cartoony rig it HAD to have squash and stretch. I also really like adding this element to animations because it gives a really nice effect.


Squash and stretch is mainly done through the node editor and using the difference in distance between controls.


This is an example of the nodes and the setup I used to achieve squash and stretch on arms, legs, spine and head.




All the squash and stretch can be switched on and off through an attribute in the IK spine, hands and feet controls.
